Building your own home is often described as one of the most stressful times in your life, but what you get at the end is a beautiful brand new home that has been built with your input and preferences. 

There are benefits to building new over buying an existing property and which is right for you will ultimately come down to what you and your family are looking for.  The benefits of building new are:

  • You get exactly what you want;
  • You can builder a smarter home – with the technology available now why wouldn’t you want to build a smart home that makes your life easier;
  • You can build an eco-conscious home – if the environment is something you’re passionate about, why not build a home that helps reduce negative impacts to the environment;
  • Warmth!  This is so important, especially if you have a young family.  Your newly built home will be warm.
  • Low to no maintenance – think about all that time you’ll save on fixing and renovating an older home.  With everyone’s busy lives the less time spent, and not to mention money, spent on fixing things around the home the better!

We are lucky here in New Zealand to have so many options when it comes to builders and housing companies to build your dream home.  So, what are your options?

Building Company:

A building company will takes care of the entire build process for you – this is a great option if you want the process to be as simple as possible.  There are a heap of building companies out there so you may need to do your homework to find the best one for you.

Direct with a Builder:

Building directly with a builder can mean that you are more hands-on during the build.  You can also run into issues once the builder has finished the bulk of their work and the other trades (tilers, painters etc.) need to be organised to come in to finish off the job.  This can mean that you are left to juggle this, which can take quite a lot of your time.

Project Manager:

Like the building companies a project manager can manage the entire build for you.  They will manage your build from start to finish leaving you with a completed house that is ready to move into.
